more info >>Madrid is one of Europe’s capitals of fun. It’s a city that never sleeps, but not in the sense that it’s full of people doing night shifts in factories or doing the wee wee hours to follow Tokyo’s stock exchange: it is more of a "people are around drinking and dancing until 6 in the morning" type of thing. When you have been there for a while, you start wondering when all these people get some work done. In spite of a Mediterranean relaxed way of life, Spain has turned into a very rich and productive country after the demise of Franco’s fascist dictatorship in the 80s. The fact of having had to live with little personal freedom for so many decades is probably the reason why there’s so much lust for fun and the Dolce Vita, even if the wilder times of the 80s, well depicted in Pedro Almodovar’s earlier films, are now a fading memory.
Madrid is also a very beautiful city, home of baroque cathedrals and palaces as well as some of Europe’s best arts museums, and surrounded by a land which is barren but extremely fascinating, in a Don Quixote sort of way. So, whether you plan to come to party like hell, or to see beautiful paintings and sights, Madrid will certainly not let you down!
